There once was a legend that spoke of a beast.
So ravenous was it's hunger,
That he devoured everything with his maw.
Mountains, Lakes, and even thunder,
All fell victims to this law.
Until the day the moon conspired,
and whispered to her brother sun.
"We should put an end to his empire.
And while we're at it, why not have a little fun?"
When the night came she whispered,
Of what he'd not obtained.
"My brother sun is still unconquered,
And the sky is HIS domain"
The beast roared in laughter,
Right before he sang.
"I can eat to my heart's desire
and none can resist my fang!"
Climbing into the sky; He took a bite out of the sun
striking darkness and fear into the heart of everyone.
Before they'd know it, the sun was no more
He'd devoured it all, even it's molten core.
Looking to the moon,
The beast grinned and flexed
"It was over much too soon,
Maybe I should eat you next."
But the moon only smiled,
As though he'd only eaten cake.
It was only then that the beast realized,
His stomach had quite the ache.
He twisted and he cried; For the pain was quite atrocious.
Still he kept the sun inside, why lose something so delicious?
When the sun finally escaped, his stomach was raw and seared
The light returned to the world, and everyone cheered.
Full of shame and feeling weak,
The beast went hiding in the snow.
Now that he had known defeat,
He would not terrorize them so.
Still the beast yearns
for taste of the sun so bright.
And some say he sometimes returns...
and tries to make things right.
So if you sometimes see the sun,
Be devoured from the very sky.
Do not fear and do not run...
Because now, you all know why.
